About our Pastor

Pastor Michael Smith was born to Bishop Lawrence Smith and the late Lady Alice Smith.  He is the second of 6 children in the Smith clan.  Pastor Smith grew up in Philadelphia, PA where he completed his primary and secondary education in the Philadelphia public school system.  With a growing thirst for education, he went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Theology from the Kentucky College of Contemporary Religion, a Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies and a Master’s degree in Biblical Studies at Covenant Bible College. He also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources from the University of Maryland University College. In his secular vocation, Pastor Smith is a Sr. Trainer for a regional healthcare provider. He is a member of the DC chapter of the National Speakers Association, and the National Society of Leadership and Success.

Pastor Smith’s spiritual development began at Congregation Temple Beth’el where he served under the leadership of the late Mother L. E. Dailey.  He served in many capacities including choir member, usher, and deacon.  Under her leadership, Pastor Smith received the gift of the Holy Ghost in 1985.   In 1992, Pastor Smith joined his father-in-law, Bishop George Dailey, in the birthing of the ministry that is now known as New Bethel House of Prayer.  Locally, he served as president of the Deacon’s Board, Sabbath School Superintendent, Youth Pastor, and Assistant Pastor.  He was ordained as a Deacon in 1992, and as an Elder in 1997. He was installed as the Pastor of New Bethel on September 4, 1999.  He has also served the House of God, Inc. organization at the state, divisional and national levels as the State Deacon Board President, State and Divisional Sabbath School Superintendent and National Young Peoples Union (YPU) Sabbath School Superintendent.  He most recently served as the National YPU President from 2008 to 2012.  He was promoted to the office of Vicar Bishop by the House of God, Inc. on July 26, 2014. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Smith has accomplished great things operating with the mottos "I can show you better than I can tell you", and "You haven't seen nothing yet. The best is yet to come!"

Pastor Smith is married to his childhood sweetheart, Minister Toya Dailey-Smith and has two children, Michaela Smith and Michael Smith, Jr.
